    Note:
    • If you already have one or more ThunderStream products installed and you are installing additional products, you do NOT need to perform any of these procedures unless you are updating a previously installed driver.


    Windows 7, Server 2008 R2 & later Installation

    1. Upgrading your ThunderStream Windows driver
    2. Adding a ThunderStream controller to an existing Windows installation

    1. Upgrading your ThunderStream Windows driver

      To install from the ThunderStream Installation CD:

      1. Log on to Windows as the system administrator.
      2. Insert the ThunderStream Installation CD into a CD or DVD drive and the CD will automatically start. If the CD does not start, navigate to the root of the CD and run 'autorun.bat'.
      3. Select "Windows Drivers" from the items on the left side of the screen.
      4. Select the appropriate CPU based operating system from operating system choices.
      5. Select "Install Windows Driver" to launch the driver installer. If you have User Account Control enabled, you will be prompted to grant the installer permission to continue. If you do not have administrator privileges, you will also be prompted for an administrator username and password. Click the 'Continue' button.
      6. Click 'Install' and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation.

      To install from the ATTO Technology website:

      1. Log on to Windows as the system administrator.
      2. Go to the Downloads section of www.attotech.com and locate the driver download for your product and operating system.
      3. Click on the link to download the file. Internet Explorer users may select 'Run' to automatically run the downloaded self-extracting executable. Otherwise, select a download destination and run the self-extracting executable when the download is complete. If you have User Account Control enabled, you will be prompted to grant the installer permission to continue. If you do not have administrator privileges, you will also be prompted for an administrator username and password. Click the 'Continue' button.
      4. Click 'Unzip' to extract the driver files and launch the driver installer.
      5. Click 'Install' and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation.

      To install from a directory containing the ThunderStream driver:

      1. Log on to Windows as the system administrator.
      2. Navigate to the directory containing the ThunderStream driver and run Setup.exe. If you have User Account Control enabled, you will be prompted to grant the installer permission to continue. If you do not have administrator privileges, you will also be prompted for an administrator username and password. Click the 'Continue' button.
      3. Click 'Install' and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation.

    2. Adding a ThunderStream controller to an existing Windows installation

      Note:
      • It is recommended that you complete this installation procedure before attaching any devices to the controller.

      1. Perform the installation procedure in (A) to pre-install the ThunderStream driver.
      2. Connect your ThunderStream controller to an Thunderbolt port. Windows should detect your ThunderStream controller and install the driver automatically.


    Creating ThunderStream Installation Media

    Use these procedures to transfer the ThunderStream driver files to alternate media such as a hard drive or USB flash drive for the installation procedures above.

    To create installation media from the ThunderStream Installation CD:

    1. Insert the ThunderStream Installation CD into a CD or DVD drive and the CD will automatically start. If the CD does not start, navigate to the root of the CD and run 'autorun.bat'.
    2. Select "Windows Drivers" from the items on the left side of the screen.
    3. Select the appropriate CPU based operating system from operating system choices.
    4. Select "Create Driver Installation Media" for the desired operating system.
    5. Follow the instructions for creating the installation media.

    To create installation media from a ThunderStream driver download from the ATTO Technology website:

    1. Go to the Downloads section of www.attotech.com and locate the driver download for your product and operating system.
    2. Click on the link to download the file. Internet Explorer users may select 'Run' to automatically run the downloaded self-extracting executable. Otherwise, select a download destination and run the self-extracting executable when the download is complete.
    3. Uncheck 'When done unzipping open .\Setup.exe'.
    4. Select a different destination folder if desired and click 'Unzip' to extract the driver files.
    5. Navigate to the folder with the ThunderStream driver.
    6. Run 'makedisk.exe' and follow the instructions for creating the installation media.


  5. Registry Settings

    Note:
    • Modifying your registry incorrectly may result in making your machine unbootable. Please use care in editing the registry.
    • All registry settings are DWORD values.
    • The following settings can be found in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tssas2r\Parameters\Device.

  6. Driver Events

    The reporting of driver events is controlled by the EventLogMask registry setting. EventLogMask is the sum of the event type values for the events you would like to see.

    In general, only errors that are output for event type 'Fatal' are significant; all others are mostly for informational or diagnostic purposes. When turning on event logging, be aware that certain events reported as errors are expected. For example, a SCSI Check Condition error will be reported for the first command sent to a device after power on or a reset condition. Also, certain data underrun errors are expected by the software and are normal.

    All events report the controller number on which the event occurred. The controller number is simply the order in which Windows initialized the controller channels and has no relevance to what port the controller is in or which channel of the controller is being reported.
