HP Multimedia USB Keyboard Driver

Congratulations on your purchase of this Keyboard!  This unique keyboard brings you to a totally free and comfortable field.  The whole keyboard is divided into several hot-key blocks except the normal keyboard function block. These blocks are Internet Key Block, Office Application Key Block, Multimedia Key Block, Enhanced Function Key Block, Power Key and Log off Key.

The applications and functions you use everyday are included in these blocks.  Just by a touch can access to your application immediately.  It helps a lot in your daily usage. 

This HP Multimedia USB Keyboard is compatible with Microsoft® Windows® 98, Windows® ME, Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP. In order to enjoy the full potentiality of the Office Keyboard, please read this driver Help carefully.

Software Installation

 

In order to have this HP Multimedia USB Keyboard to function properly, first install the build-in Windows USB device drivers, and then install the "HP Multimedia USB Keyboard" driver.

          The USB device driver is included in Windows system.

When the first time you plug in the HP Multimedia USB keyboard, the system will automatically detect a new hardware connected and then bring up the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialogue box.  Please follow the Wizard's USB driver installation steps. Once this installation step is completed the basic functions of the keyboard will work under the 
operating system.  You may toggle the NumLock or CapsLock key to see if the LED is lit correspondently, and thus to know the keyboard works well.

You may refer to the following steps to install the "HP Multimedia USB Keyboard" driver.  

After installing the USB device driver and make sure that the keyboard is recognized by the operating system.

  1. Insert the CD labeled "HP Multimedia USB Keyboard" driver into your CD-ROM drive.

  2. The CD will automatically run and bring up the Setup window..

  3. Follow the screen instruction to install the driver. The default installed path is set to c:\Program Files\HP Multimedia USB Keyboard. You have the option to change the install path during setup.

  4. When all setup procedures are finished, the operating system does not need to restart. The driver is loaded when you see the driver icon show on the taskbar 
    (lower right corner of the screen).

 

Uninstallation

Please note that you have to uninstall the driver first if you want to re-install it.

  1. Right-click the driver icon on the taskbar and select "Exit" command to exit the driver program.

  2. Click "Start" menu (on the left-bottom taskbar).

  3. Move cursor to "Programs" in "Start" menu.

  4. Move cursor again to "HP Multimedia USB Keyboard".

  5. Select "Uninstallation".

  6. Click "Yes" to confirm you want to uninstall.

 

LED Indication

  1. Num Lock:  The HP Multimedia USB Keyboard driver icon will show as numlock.gif (892 bytes) when you press the num lock button. 

  2. Caps Lock: The  HP Multimedia USB Keyboard driver icon will show as capslock.gif (893 bytes) when you press the caps lock button.

  3. Scroll Lock: The  HP Multimedia USB Keyboard driver icon will show as scrolock.gif (892 bytes) when you press the scroll lock button.

 

Hot Key Blocks Feature

 

Besides the usual keys, this keyboard also has extra-dedicated keys, which provide A Power Key, Internet Keys, Office Application Keys, Multimedia Keys, A Log Off Key and 12 embedded F1 ~ F12 Enhanced Office Keys.

 

In order to use these keys, it is necessary to have the "HP Multimedia USB Keyboard Driver" installed.

Note: 1. The default of Enhanced Office Wizard key is disabled when you plug the keyboard connector into your PC.

2. These hot keys are reprogrammable (except Volume up, Volume down and mute). They can be configured as a string, a combination
    key, a web site, an existing file, or a function the driver pre-defines for you. To reconfigure these keys, click the HP
Multimedia USB Keyboard icon on the
    taskbar to select
Commands in the Menu.

The Enhanced function key block consists of 12 embedded Office keys, they share with the keys of F1~F12 for 12 keys block. 
This dual function block is toggled by
 
key.  When you press the  Office Wizard key, the blue back-lit will on in the middle hot key block 
and
the embedded Office keys are activated. the meanwhile, the HP
Multimedia USB Keyboard driver icon will show the state of F button as below:

: F Off (F1-F12 keys work as pre-defined function.  The HP Multimedia USB Keyboard icon would show like   when F-Lock Key function is
           disabled.

: F On ( F1-F12 keys work as embedded office function.  The HP Multimedia USB Keyboard icon would show like  when F-Lock Key function
             is enabled.

F1: New

creates a new, blank file in program.

F2: Forward

forwards the e-mail in Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.

F3: Reply

replies to the e-mail in Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.

F4: Reply All

replies the e-mail to all in Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.

F5: Undo

reverses the last command or deletes the last entry you typed or action.

F6: Redo

reverses the action of the Undo command. 

F7: Save

saves the active file with current file name, location and file format.

F8: Send sends the e-mail in Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.
F9: Cut removes the selection from the active documents.
F10: Copy copies the selection to the clipboard.
F11: Paste pastes the previously cut or copied items from the clipboard.
F12: Spell starts the spelling-check program in the active document.

 

Commands in the Menu

If you right-click on the HP Multimedia USB Keyboard icon on the taskbar, a menu will pop up with the following commands.

Click on this command, a customization dialogue box will pop up with following functions. 

1.  Select a HotKey

This function contains the default function of a key. You can click on the "Display Label" to re-define the key functions. When you click it, a Configure Button box will appear.

*  Label

In the "Button Label" box, type the name of application that the button will launch, or any name that will help you remember the function of the button. This label will appear on screen each time you press the button. 

*  Functions

You can see a list of pre-defined functions and set one of it for the button.

*  Launch Application or Website

Type in the path to an often-used application or click the Browse button to select any file in your computer. If you want to attach a web page to the button, just simply type in the website address in the dialogue box.

* Combination Key

In many Windows application, there are many hot keys to execute some often used commands. Some of the hot keys are combined with two keys pressed simultaneously, and some are three. It is not easy to press and to remember those hot keys. Now you can define those complicated hot keys you always forgot. Any kind of combination is available. For example,
[Alt] + [F4] = close window,
[Ctrl] + [A] = select all.

* String

You may define the button as a string of texts which needs to be input often. The maximum characters are 500. Taking good advantages of this function can save much your text input time and makes your works more efficient.

2.  Enable Display Label

This command is to show or hide the OSD (On Screen Display). When the OSD is enabled, each time you press any one of the multimedia buttons, its function name (button label) will show on the right-bottom corner on the screen. The default of this function is enabled.

3. Enable Taskbar Icon

This command is to show or hide the taskbar driver icon. When the function is enabled, you can see a driver icon, its function name (button label) will show on the right-bottom corner of the screen. If you want to reload it again, you can select Start => Program => Configure to launch it. The default of this function is enabled.

4. Enable Auto Play

This command is to show or hide the auto play function. When the function is enabled, the Microsoft Media Player will show on the screen after you press the “Play” key of the multimedia keys. For Winamp user, you can use the multimedia keys to control the Winamp function after you call out the Winamp and disable the Auto play function. The default of this function is enabled.

Select this command to exit from this driver program, but not to remove (uninstall). After you restart your system, the driver will be loaded again.

 

Troubleshooting

 

If you are experiencing problems with your keyboard, please check the following:

5. The repeating rate of previous & next key of multimedia function cannot match the speed of CD-ROM driver:

8. The short cut keys' default functions of Microsoft Windows can not be used:

9. Word, Excel, Calculator cannot do action, but the onscreen can show up:

10. Sleep key does not work properly:

The Log Off key function must be enabled because the default of Log Off function is disabled in Windows 2000. The way to enable the Log Off function is that open the Windows Start Menu and find the "Taskbar & Start Menu" under the "Setting" function. Choose the Taskbar & Start Menu Properties, select Start Menu Settings in Advanced window, choose the "Display Logoff" item and click OK to complete enable the Log Off function.

11. The embedded SEND key function does not work

In few case and with some European languages, the SEND key cannot work in “Microsoft Outlook2000 or Outlook2002” when the Microsoft Outlook menu item 
Use Microsoft Word to edit email messages” is highlighted. To assign the shortcut key for the SEND function, you should carry out the following steps:

 

 

Click and move cursor to “Press new shortcut key” blank area then Press the SEND key (the SEND key build on the Keyboard, that is; please make sure 

Keyboard office lock indicator is already enabled). You will see the “Ctrl+Return” or “Alt+S” replace blank area after you press the SEND key. 

When you click the “Assign” select item, the “Ctrl+Return” or “Alt+S” will show under “Current keys”.

 

Re-test the SEND key function under “Microsoft Outlook”The SEND key function should now be working properly.

Warning: Please don’t click the “Reset All” select item; or you will lose all shortcut key functions.  

 

Note: It is the best way of using the SEND key. You should press “Shift+Tab” to let the cursor jump to “Subject” after completing your email edit, 
         and then press the “SEND” key. Otherwise the “SEND” sometimes fails to work.
